Chalice Community of Faith
(a work in progress)

|
Since 1854 people committed to the Christian faith have gathered in these buildings with a commitment to being a Church which nurtures faith and positively contributes to the life of the Northcote (Darebin) community. Whilst the words we use today to describe Chalice - community of faith are quite different to those of 150, 100, and even 50 years ago there is a continuity of vision. We celebrate the contributions of all who have gone before us and hope that our contemporary endeavours will offer a vibrant, growing, and celebratory expression of Christianity as a living faith. |
Who we are today
We seek to be a Community of Faith which welcomes all. In doing this we
- celebrate and honour our place in the Christian tradition, and the Uniting Church in Australia
- are committed to exploring and deepening our faith and its relevance to everyday life.
- provide a range of ways in which people can connect with the Christian tradition - from contemplation to coffee shop to communion
- are committed to honouring the individual spiritual journeys of all people, all communities and all faith traditions
- recognize that creativity is a significant pathway for many people to nurture their spirituality and community connectedness
- recognize the importance of working collaboratively to develop and strengthen community
- connections and belonging for people
- will seek to address social justice issues collaboratively
- seek to be a safe and supportive gathering place for community
In recent years the intentional development of Chalice as a Community of Faith, which welcomes individuals and groups exploring contemporary spirituality, has focussed on a model of inclusiveness, flexibility and partnerships. This approach is central to our relationship with Prison Fellowship (Vic.) & Synergy Gallery Inc. and our other tenants
We also continue to seek ways of working with creative arts groups, local traders, the City of Darebin, and community groups with whom we share a common focus, for example on social justice issues, refugees/asylum seekers, poverty, peace, disability, and living in harmony.
Whilst Chalice intentionally offers a variety of opportunities to explore and develop our spirituality we recognise that some people may be seeking a more traditional or family oriented worship service. If so we encourage you to contact -
